Albutt of Tewkesbury is a family owned business manufacturing equipment for agricultural and waste handling industries throughout Europe and the rest of the world. R&D Tax Claims has successfully secured 4 years of tax savings netting the company over £90,000.
Founded more than 40 years ago by Robert Albutt, the firm has gone from employing just six people making and mending agricultural equipment to a staff of 48 supplying a range of equipment to almost 700 dealers worldwide. The company’s experience in materials handling has grown to encompass the construction and waste handling industries with attachments for a wide variety of applications that can operate for long hours in harsh environments.
Albutt managing director Alistair Albutt said:
“As a British manufacturer, we wanted to explore whether we were entitled to any grants, that’s how our claim started.
We fulfil every step of the manufacturing process – our products are designed here, tested here and made here. Ultimately, we took on Mark Evans and his team because it was a case of ‘what have we got to lose?”
Mark said the biggest obstacle he faces is that companies believe the tax claim scheme is too good to be true – and will involve too much work and too much of their time. But Jane Galer, office manager at Albutt, said their experience was just the opposite:
“The whole process wasn’t nearly as painful as we expected.
We are a relatively small company, working on a big scale. Every member of staff wears more than one hat and trying to find the time to consider R&D was difficult. We had to assess whether investing that time would be worthwhile, but ultimately it was a case of ‘what have we got to lose’.”
She said that the process was straight forward and speedy.
“I would certainly advise other firms to look into it. The tax benefits are significant and R&D Tax Claims will quickly advise if there is a good claim situation and manage the process for you. We are delighted that we have already been able to reinvest every penny claimed back
into the business.”
